Glasgow Tri Newsletter 97

Dear members,

First off, an important announcement: please note that we will be changing our Sunday swim times to 7-8pm (for the normal fitness swim session) and 8-9pm (for the beginners/improvers swim session) as of Sunday 3rd April onwards. This change is following an agreement that the Masters swimmers will join our Sunday session, with a reciprocal offer from them to join (if our members should want to), their Friday evening session 9-10pm (we have not yet confirmed whether this is coached or not).

The next race focus group session is THIS Sunday 6th March, 11am to 1pm. This will be a practical session focused on transition practice and I would highly encourage you to attend. For full details on what to bring, please see the website post.

Quite a few folk out racing at the weekend, all running I believe! A few runners were going a bit longer, with Jim and Beth Lockhart running the Cambridge half marathon – Jim finishing in 1:44 and Beth in a new PB (and first time under 2 hours) of 1:57. Tackling the hilly trails of the Glentress trail races were Peter Dorrington and Stephen Macintyre. Peter was racing the marathon event, finishing in 5:32:25 and Stephen in the half marathon event, finishing in 2:17:22 (the times should be an indication of how challenging this event was!).

Charlie Treharne and Amiya Patel were was dominating at the Glasgow schools cross country event on Friday, with Charlie coming first overall for the P5 boys and Amiya coming second in the girls. Patrick Kiehlmann, Mia Padmanabhan, Isabelle Burnside, Orla Docherty and Jamie Glen were all racing on Saturday at the Scottish national cross country championships at Callander park in Falkirk. Some of the girls had clearly not had enough racing with Mia Padmanabhan, Isabelle Burnside and Amiya Patel taking part in the Victoria park junior parkrun on Sunday. Mia came 2nd overall in a new PB of 8:00, Isabelle was 5th overall in a new PB of 8:21 and Amiya Patel ran 9:20.

Some adults also parkrunning at the weekend; @ Pollok parkrun was Tom McGuinness (20:36); @ Falkirk parkrun was John Paul Murphy (20:16); @ Tollcross parkrun was Ken Eccleson (29:58) and @ Victoria parkrun were Pete Wightman (19:46), Ian Clunie (22:59) and Andrew Cruickshank (23:44).

There are a couple of races going on this weekend, so good luck to anyone taking part in the Jack Crawford 10km, the Round the Houses 10km (there’s a 2km fun run option here too) or the Ben Gullipen Hill race. Entries are still open for all three of these events so if you have a last minute decision to do a race then there are plenty of options (two of which are on Saturday and so don’t clash with the transition session). Links to entry pages are given!

Happy training!
