Why Join A Club? PDF Print E-mail

Hi,

I am often asked "What are the benefits of joining a Triathlon Club". To this I guess one should also add: "And why become a Member of triathlonscotland". There are Club and Sport Specific benefits through each Membership and these, so far as the Glasgow Tri Club is concerned, are set out below.

But in reality, there's only one answer to this question.

"To support the infrastructure and development of our sport."

Triathlon is not generally a Team sport. You can easily train and compete on your own. Many do, some by preference and some by circumstance. However, those people persuing the sport in this way need to bear in mind several things if they chose to stay outside the Club and or National Body structure:

The National Governing Body(s)
  1. They control and direct our sport, bring order where otherwise there may be chaos, facilitate a plethora of Sport - Specific initiatives from Coaching Standards and Development through to Youth Development and Race Rules cordination. Contrary to to the belief of some - this does not come for FREE! Try joining any Triathlon race that has not been sanctioned through the Governing Body and operated under the Governing Body's Rules, (if you can find one that-is), and chaos will reign.

All Affiliated Clubs pay Fees to their Governing body and join in the process of contributing to the general improvement and development of Triathlon.
The Local Club(s)

Grass routes level! We need Members and a small amount of their cash to maintain and improve the operating style of the Club and to contibute to the National infrastructure of the sport. At Glasgow our training sessions are generally self financing, (albeit we need a "cushion" for the summer when this is not the case), and our races now produce an operating surplus - mainly because Members give their time freely to support with the running of events. Our Members, in contributing their subscriptions and - hopefully - becoming involved in Club Training and Race Support are doing their bit to build a sport we enjoy in a calm and controlled way.
