We currently have nine coaches attached to the Club. COACHING LEVELS The coaches at GTC have differing levels of qualification which allows them to fulfill differing roles to cover the clubs coaching needs: LEVEL 1 - Assistant Coach. These coaches assist more qualified coaches, delivering aspects of coaching sessions, normally under direct supervision. At club sessions they run elements of the session and can advise as to which group etc you should participate in. They are not qualified to work as individual coaches. LEVEL 2 - Session Coach. These coaches are usually involved in leading individual sessions and at GTC will sometimes write the session plans for a block or block of sessions overseen by the Head Coach. They can advise on which group to participate and also how the session could be modified to meet an individuals needs. They are qualified to work with an individual in providing a session or series of session in a given discipline but cannot act as a coach providing a full training programme. LEVEL 3 - COACH. A level 3 coach oversees the development and delivery of a coaching programme for individuals or groups / clubs. This is the minimum level of qualification acceptable to operate as an individuals triathlon coach. LEVEL 4 - Not yet available.
Maisie Bancewicz - Level 3 Coach, GTC head coachInvolved with triathlon and GTC for 10 years. Non-traditional route to sport by way of rugby. Regardless of the fact not genetically suited to this endurance lark, or 1st race at Wick sprint I was on the Ironman NZ start-line two and an half years later. Eventually learnt to sort of swim properly!? Involved in coaching at club for several years prior to L3 qualification and assuming head coach role in Jan 09. Other roles in triathlon as volunteer with Triathlon Scotland, anti-doping /child protection tutor and senior referee. In training for Ironman Lanza 2010...you will be seeing me back as an athlete!
Steve Clark - Level 3 coach summary to follow
Tommy Mckay - Level 2 CoachTommy is captain communication, an enthusiastic coach who keeps things simple - the way they should be. A man who knows the true value of hard work and a real asset to the coaching team.
Vicky Begg - Level 1 Coach summary to follow
Jason Gill - Level 2 Coach summary to follow
Bob Newton - Level 1 Coach Bob came to Duathlon - he can't swim to save his life!! late in life having been variously a Footballer, Rugby Player, Club Golfer and Distance Runner in past "lives". It is running where Bob has the most to offer, having completed twelve Marathons - three at Sub 3hour pace, all when in his late forties. Professionally Bob is a Sales Manager - selling Wine! It doesn't help, by the way, if you call him an "Old Wino"!
Dougie MacNaughton - Level 1 Coach
Having given up competitive sport in my early twenties I decided to give triathlon a go because I could just about swim, cycle (mainly commuting) & sort of run. I completed my first sprint and standard distance triathlons in 2006 and a half iron man distance in 2007 (very slowly). My personal ambition in triathlon is to overtake someone, anyone, during the run leg.
Ali Lapping (nee Smeaton) - Level 1 Coach Ali's currently not coaching as she's a bit tied up with more important stuff as an new mum.. congratulations Ali!!
Michael Kinsella - Level 1 Coach Candidate We all wish Michael the best on his L1 course which starts this weekend (5th/6th Dec) and look forward to him joining the coaching team.
