Good evening GTC!
This week’s chat is mostly on 5km runs and introducing the super summer series rides. But don’t forget to send me your names (and your family members’ and friends’?) to add you to our list of volunteers for the Allander Junior Aquathlon! Please send in any racing results or other announcements to me if you want them included in these emails.
In case anyone is wondering, whilst some of us are off to explore the smooth tarmac in Fuerteventura on Wednesday for the Winter training camp, all sessions are on as normal in our absence.
Running like the wind: This week was benchmarking at Thursday run session, where Craig put the guys and gals through their paces over a 5km TT. Of 12 runners there were an impressive 6 PBs – a good illustration of how beneficial these run sessions are for improving your pace, no matter what speed you run, so why not give ‘em a whirl. Surely there must be some people out there who can give Neal R a run for his money (see what I did there)? Results were:
Neal Robertson 16:19
Alan McMurray 19:40
John Sandbach 19:47
Runner 4 20:19 (if this was you send us your name, the rain obscured the writing!)
Colm Tracey 20:37
Michael Dougan 21:08
Vicky Begg 21:14
Paul Lucas 21:38
Jim Lockhart 22:09
Also kicking some 5km ass was Andrew Cruickshank, who took 1:35 off his previous 5km best to achieve 24:47 at Victoria Park Parkrun. If you haven’t heard of or been along to a parkrun you absolutely should, they’re totally free and run every Saturday in four locations around Glasgow (Pollok Park, Strathclyde Park, Tollcross Park and Victoria Park), all the organisers ask in return is that you volunteer to help out at an event occasionally.
I was perusing the GTC information for the various parkruns today and discovered that John Kinsella and Mark Cohen have done parkrun a whopping 51 and 56 times! Good effort guys! Parkrun results for runners registered as GTC will now be sent to me directly so no need to send me those results for inclusion in the digest.
Still recruiting for volunteers for the Allander Junior Aquathlon on Sunday 23rd March. No experience required, should only take 8-11am-ish. Fire an email back to me if you’d like to add your name to the list.
There are still spaces for the Spring training weekend in Aberfeldy on 15-16th March. Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll put you in touch with Alan K, who is organising it.
If you haven’t joined the club yet, why not? Linky If you have, make sure you collect your GTC running vest, as part of the membership this year. Wear it with pride! Anyone who ordered kit in the last order should seek Vicky to collect it.
Have a good week, hope the sun shines on Glasgow too 😉 Any queries, just send me an email back!
