Three juniors qualify for national champs

Congratulations go to three junior GTC members who have qualified for the Inter Regional Championships this summer.

Charlie Treharne, Amiya Patel and Fraser Donaldson were selected for the National Championships for the Tristar2 and Tristar3 triathletes after competing at Triathlon Scotland National Youth Championships at Bellahouston Park earlier this month.

Only the best triathletes from each region are selected to compete.

The 2018 event date will take place on September 15 and 16 in Mallory Park, Leicestershire, as part of the British Triathlon Under 20s Festival.

In other junior news, Mia Padmanabhan qualified to race in a top flight competition – the British Super Series – and performed very well.

It’s also expected that at least three youth athletes from the club will attend Triathlon Scotland National Academy Squad trials in August.

Head coach of the juniors Billy Mitchell said: “Congratulations to Charlie, Amiya and Fraser for being selected to represent Scotland in triathlon in their respective age groups this summer.  I believe that this is a first for GTC Juniors in its current form.  Congratulations to them and to those that narrowly missed out.

“Also,  congratulations  to Mia in the Super Series. She performed really well.”

Juniors go from strength to strength

Billy offered his reflections on the junior section as Block 3 came to a close.

He said: “I would like to thank all coaches for their marvellous work.  Athlete performances at training and competition have been really encouraging.

“I am particularly pleased to see the progress made by athletes in the swim development lanes, with many of them making the step up to coached lanes for Block 4.

“Another highlight for me is retention of athletes. We are getting very few ‘leavers’ and this is testament to the quality of coaching and the welcoming atmosphere.

“Almost all athlete places for Block 4 have been filled and  we now have more than 100 members, coached by more than 16 coaches across six venues.”
