GTC has a number of sessions for members focused on swimming, cycling and running taking place throughout the week. We always welcome new members and we have specific sessions for people who are new to swimming (we call them runners or cyclists). Your first session is free and then we ask that you join up.
There are a combination of sessions that are delivered under the guidance of our qualified coaches and more informal, non-coached sessions which are organised by members via the forum.
Our sessions (and coaches) aim to cater for all levels of ability and you are welcome to take part in as few or as many as you wish. We pride ourselves on welcoming all athletes. If you have any questions about access to our sessions or require any special assistance, please contact us and we can make arrangements to suit your needs.
MONDAY (summer) – CYCLE FITNESS
It’s no longer summer, so this session will restart in 2016.
Meeting place, Ivy India (previously known as Malletsheugh Inn, A77), Ayr Road, Newton Mearns, Glasgow G77 6RT, @ 6: 30 – 6:45pm. This will usually take the form of a 10mile cycle time trial once a month (followed by curry buffet) and intervals or APR’s (Australian Pursuit Racing – if you don’t know what this is, don’t worry – just come along – its fun).
TUESDAY YOUTH SESSION
Glasgow Club Maryhill and Glasgow Club Scotstoun – 34 Gairbraid Avenue, Glasgow, G20 8YE or 72 Danes Dr, Glasgow G14 9HD. A fun session for 8-15 year olds. Learn everything there is to know about triathlon from our experienced coaches. £2. Parental consent forms must be completed.
6 – 7pm swim
7 – 8pm run (usually outdoors, so please bring warm and reflective clothes)
TUESDAY ADULT SWIM SESSIONS
Glasgow Club Maryhill – 34 Gairbraid Avenue, Glasgow, G20 8YE
This year we have introduced a short trail/riverside run before each session, so leaving at 18:15 and 19:15 to get a pre-swim run – £1.50.
7 – 8pm: This session focuses on lane 1: development/novice, lane 2: improvers, and will concentrate on front crawl technique and fitness covering a distance of around 1.5K – 2k
8 – 9pm: This is for all levels of triathletes, and will concentrate on developing aerobic and anaerobic endurance for triathlon events, covering 1.5K – 3K. Please note that places for each session are limited and will give given on first come, first serve basis. £3.00 per session (£2:00 students / concessions + 16-18 yrs, U16’s – free, non members £10)
THURSDAY RUN SESSION
18:30 at Bellahouston front door entrance. Depart 18:45.
These group running sessions are aimed at development of aerobic endurance and strength during the winter month with sessions grouped into four week blocks. They are open to all abilities and tailored accordingly. Please wear reflective / bright clothing – it’s important that we can be seen on the roads.
SATURDAY RUGGED RUN SESSION (every 4 weeks or so)
A longer, steadier run session. These are advertised on the Forum and Facebook pages. Usually held in spectacular local hill locations. Please ensure you wear appropriate clothing and bring food/drinks – you will not be allowed to run with the group without these. Mobile phones are also recommended as something to bring along.
Glasgow Club Maryhill, 2-4pm. This is a multi-discipline, mega-fun session aimed at 8-16 year olds. You will develop skills and fitness and a few things about triathlon!
SATURDAY/SUNDAY CLUB RIDES
Our rugged run series is back every two weeks throughout winter alternating North and South. Sat 31st October War memorial Strathblane for 13km, no-one get’s left behind.

7 – 8pm – meet beforehand (20mins gives you time to sign in and get changed) in the foyer. This is for all levels of triathletes, and will concentrate on developing aerobic and anaerobic endurance for triathlon events, covering between 1.5K – 3K.
8 – 9pm – Learners and improvers session – this is designed to suit beginners and to develop your stroke.

OTHER WEEKEND SESSIONS
There are often other sessions that are arranged at specific times throughout the year, so keep an eye on the Training link and on Facebook for any announcements. Typical sessions might be transition skills, Brick (that’s bike + run) sessions, swim filming.
