Call out for volunteers for club triathlon

Previous happy GTC volunteers!
Previous happy GTC volunteers!

The Bishopbriggs Triathlon, at Bishopbriggs Leisuredome, is an important race in the annual GTC calendar. Not only does it offer many Glasgow athletes the chance to compete locally but it also helps the club to remain financially buoyant.

The race cannot be held without the support of GTC members and this year, like every other, we are calling for your help. If you plan to take part in the triathlon you could lend your support before of after you race, or offer a volunteer friend or family member in your place.

For all other members of GTC this is your chance to give something back and to ensure the club continues to thrive.

This year Olivia Robinson is in charge of organising the volunteers for the Bishopbriggs Triathlon on Sunday May 8. She reports that many volunteers have already offered their support but she is still looking for at least another 25 volunteers.

Volunteers will be allocated to roles nearer the time unless there is a particular reason why someone needs to do a particular role.

The roles include marshalling and cheering on contestants, car park attendants, swim lane counters, cake sellers, registration helpers, etc.

Most roles will be standing but there are some seated roles and, for obvious reasons, these will mainly be filled by less mobile volunteers.

As a general rule, volunteers will need to be available from 9am to 5pm (approximately) on the day but if people can offer half a day’s help that will also be gratefully received.

Bake and bring for cake stall

The popular cake stall will return for this year’s triathlon. Profits go to helping the junior section of the club. Please bake cakes and biscuits and bring them along on the day.

Fiona Outdoors Russell is the contact for this. Message her on Facebook or email fionaoutdoors@gmail.com to tell her if you will bake a cake for the stall.

Many benefits of volunteering

  • Meet other club members
  • Watch a triathlon and learn from other athletes.
  • A lunch voucher for the café at Bishopbriggs Leisuredome.
  • To give something back to the club
  • To ensure the club runs profitably and that sessions can remain subsidised
  • For cake from the fantastic bake stall
  • Because it’s fun to be part of a big event
  • To feel good about helping the club.
