Glasgow Triathlon Club member Fraser Gemmell was delighted to podium at a race in Lancashire at the weekend.
The 11-year-old raced in the Tristar 2 category completing a 200m swim, a 6k bike and 1.8k run. He finished second overall – and just 12 seconds behind the winner.
The triathlon event took place in Lytham St Annes and offered a fast and flat race on quiet country lanes and around the promenade.
Faye Gemmell, Fraser’s mum, said: “We travelled down together to Lancashire to take part in Fraser’s first triathlon since lockdown. We stayed in a convenient Premier Inn.
“On race day, Fraser came out of a solid swim and then completed the fastest bike time for his T2 age group. Fortunately, he kept something in his legs for a good run and finished second overall, missing out on first place by 12 seconds.
“It was a beautiful setting for a triathlon and a well organised event. Fraser said how great it was to be back competing again.”
